FitCuba kicks off opening celebrations in Cayo Coco

Annual Cuban tourism show, FITCuba, kicked off on Wednesday night (May 1) with a series of opening festivities that included the dazzling use of drones to create multi-coloured aerial images of the likes of a windsurfer, cocktail glass and a sea turtle.

The creative ceremony also featured Cuban singing and dancing and other lively entertainment in a country that has given the world such cultural expressions as salsa.
Held this year in Jardins del Rey from May 1 to May 5, over the course of four days, industry professionals including tour operators, airlines, hotels and media will gather for a series of networking opportunities that allow for familiarization of Cuba.
Lessner Gomez, Canadian director for the Cuba Tourist Board, who was on hand for the event, labelled it “amazing. Cuba has opened its heart to the tourism world.” Another event attendee was Eric Rodriguez of Sunwing, who also gave the ceremony the thumbs-up.
“It was an amazing event with amazing Cuban talent,” he said.
Cayo Coco is one of a number of islands off Cuba’s north coast that the Cuban government chose for tourism development because of their long beaches.
