GNTB Unveils Plans For German Travel Mart 2022

As the world prepares for the Passion Play in Oberammergau in 2022, the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has announced that the GTM Germany Travel Mart 2022 will take place in the municipality of Oberammergau for the first time.

Dates for the event are set for May 2 to May 4, 2022.

The Passion Play is a well know German cultural heritage event and was included on the UNESCO’s list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for Germany in 2014. Every 10 years the performances attract more than half a million visitors from all over the world. After the Passion Play could not take place in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was moved to 2022.

Petra Hedorfer, Chairwoman of the Executive Board for the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) said: “The appropriate development of offers and infrastructure are the main challenges for the tourism industry in international competition during and after the Covid-19 crisis. Each year the key accounts of the international travel industry and German suppliers meet at the GTM Germany Travel Mart and negotiate business deals. After organizing the GTM virtually in 2020 and 2021, we are setting a significant mark in 2022 for further recovery of incoming tourism. Together with our guests we are looking very much forward to the atmosphere of face to face communication in the unique backdrop of Oberammergau in the Bavarian Alps.”

Barbara Radomski, executive director of the Bavaria Tourism Marketing GmbH, noted that: “We are very happy that the GTM, as the most important event for Germany Incoming, will be happening in Bavaria again next year – the particularly special year for the restart of Germany tourism. With this event, the free state of Bavaria is hosting the international travel industry for the third time for the GTM and for the very first time ever in a rural area. We see a tremendous chance with this for Bavaria and Germany to convey images of this unique region to the rest of the world and to revive worldwide incoming tourism to Germany again.”

And Walter Rutz, executive director of the Passion Play Oberammergau Vertriebs GmbH & Co. KG, observed: “In 2022 the Passion Play finally happens in Oberammergau again. With hosting the GTM we see an exceptional chance to present this original symbiosis of culture, tradition and heritage within an international framework and to give stimuli to tourism to Bavaria and Germany as a whole. All of Oberammergau is looking forward to host the top managers of the international travel industry.”
