HELPING OUT TINY TOTS
The ninth annual Tee Off For Tiny Tots golf tournament took place last week at the Caledon Golf & Country Club in Inglewood, Ont. All proceeds from the event went to the African Pre-Schools Society, a Canadian registered charity. In 1998, Canadian Marianne Schaubeck initiated a program to build a school for extremely impoverished tiny tots. The project came to fruition and a registered charity — African Pre-Schools Society — was born. The charity provides salaries to the teaching staff, maintenance of the buildings, books and supplies, and two wholesome meals per day for the needy children. There is now a second school, Sunshine, inaugurated in 2011 in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Between the two schools, Mazinyane and Sunshine, more than 430 impoverished children learn, play, and eat. The support of the travel industry and the South Africa Chamber of Business have helped raise in excess of $77,000 over the past eight years to support these children.
