Although crossing the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge — suspended 100ft above sea level — attracts visitors from around the world, Mark Rodgers is inviting travellers to “discover what’s beyond the iconic rope bridge.”
From warming your hands by a turf fire in an 18th century fisherman’s hut to learning about the men who once earned a living on the deserted island, Rodgers wants to share stories about previous generations and the history of the land.
“I want them to get the history of the bridge, enjoy that experience, obviously, but if they’re coming here, to discover the history of the people who fished on this island. I’m the third generation of this family to do this job, I love it dearly, the history and the heritage that is attached to it,” Rodgers said during the Embrace a Giant Spirit showcase presentation part of the Northern Ireland Virtual Expo yesterday (March 24.) “People have done this for generations before me so I want people to connect and to have that journey with me.”
Beyond the Bridge is one of 60 new and unique brand experiences that can be booked by travel advisors, tour operators or travellers ahead of a visit to Ireland. For Game of Thrones fans, there’s the chance to discover Westeros in real life, visit famous filming locations and see original artifacts and set pieces. Meanwhile, those who are seeking to enjoy some live music can explore Belfast with musicians as guides and get the chance to catch a live performance in an intimate setting with singers who may be playing for sold out venues the following week.
“Tourism Ireland is delighted to launch the ‘Northern Ireland – Embrace a Giant Spirit’ brand to 1,400+ travel advisors across North America to hear all about Northern Ireland and the many ‘Giant’ experiences on offer for their clients,” Sandra Moffatt, Manager, Canada, for Tourism Ireland told PressToday. “When the time is right, we are looking forward to welcoming visitors back to our shores, to enjoy a fantastic vacation and the renowned warm Irish welcome. With experiences ranging from truly unique, indulgent and adventurous – we are confident that Northern Ireland has something in store for all travellers!”
The Northern Ireland Virtual Expo was an opportunity for travel professionals to learn and engage with over 40 suppliers from Northern Ireland, as well as US and Canadian tour operator partners.
