Robert Housez retires as GM of the Chelsea Hotel, Toronto

After 43 years, Robert Housez, General Manager of The Chelsea Hotel, Toronto, retired from that role on  April 2, 2026. This milestone marks the conclusion of an exceptional career spanning more than four decades in the global hospitality industry.

Housez has exemplified outstanding leadership, unwavering dedication, and a deep-rooted passion for service excellence throughout his career. His extensive experience includes senior leadership roles with internationally renowned hotel brands such as Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, InterContinental Hotels Group, Delta Hotels and Resorts, and most recently, Langham Hospitality Group.

Since joining the Chelsea Hotel in 2015, Housez has served as General Manager of Canada’s largest hotel by guest room count. During his tenure, he has played a pivotal role in driving strong financial performance while elevating the hotel’s reputation as a leader in the hospitality sector.

A hands-on and highly engaged leader, Housez has been instrumental in guiding the hotel’s sales, marketing, and revenue strategies. His ability to foster a culture of excellence has resulted in significant operational and financial achievements.

Beyond the hotel, he has made substantial contributions to the broader hospitality industry through his leadership roles, including:

  • Executive Board Member of the Greater Toronto Hotel Association (GTHA) since 2008, serving as Chairman from 2012 to 2014
  • Board Member of Destination Toronto since 2012, including roles as Vice-Chair (2017/18) and Chair (2018/19)
  • Executive Board Member of the Downtown Yonge BIA since 2015
  • Executive Board Member of SKAL International Toronto North Club since 2008, serving as President from 2009 to 2010

His contributions have been widely recognized, including:

  • 2018 Pinnacle Award for Hotelier of the Year
  • HSMAI General Manager of the Year Award
