TICO charges
Paul Tribe and The Mindful Traveller Inc. have been charged with two counts each of failing to maintain trust accounts contrary to the Ontario Travel Industry Act. Approximately $32,000 of claims were paid to consumers from the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund after the registration of The Mindful Traveller Inc. was terminated in February 2011. The first court appearance is scheduled for April 17 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph. Cynthia Monica Burgher has been charged with one count of acting as a travel agent without registration contrary to the Act. Burgher was previously registered and continued to sell bus charters in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario after her registration was terminated. The first court appearance is scheduled for March 14 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto. In other moves, Carlos Ventura o/a Ventura Vacations has been charged with seven counts of failing to maintain trust accounts contrary to the Ontario Travel Industry Act. Approximately $5,500 of claims were paid to consumers from the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund after Ventura’s was terminated in April. The first court appearance is scheduled for April 3 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Whitby. Arif Assim and Sacred Tours Inc. have been charged with three counts each of operating as a travel agent without registration contrary to the Act. Assim and Sacred Tours Inc. operated in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario. Assim and Sacred Tours Inc. were previously convicted under the Act for operating without registration in December 2010.
