Sunwing Says Complaint Is ‘Without Merit’
In a statement, Sunwing Airlines Inc. said that it has reviewed a copy of Unifor Local 7378’s recent complaint to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board. The carrier states categorically that the union’s claim that Sunwing was sold to WestJet shortly after a renewal collective agreement was signed with its pilots in early 2021 is not true. In a new report, produced for the World Travel Market (WTM) by ForwardKeys, it reveals that in the third quarter of the year -- July, August and September -- global air travel is set to reach 65% of where it was before the pandemic in 2019. Dealing With The Surge
In an effort to deal with the surge in travel, Air Canada has announced that it's reducing its schedule by on average, 77 roundtrips (or 154 flights) per day in total for July and August. Those changes began yesterday (June 29). Prior to this, Air Canada operated on average about 1,000 flights a day. Three routes will be temporarily suspended between Montreal and: Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Kelowna and one from Toronto to Fort McMurray.
