GOOD KARMA RATES FOR BEACH CLEANERS
Those who want to do their part in cleaning up the growing debris on BC's west coast, resulting from the Japan tsunami in 2011, can join volunteers in a beach clean-up effort on May 10-12. And they can get a reduced rate at the Long Beach Lodge Resort by doing so. It is offering a reduced rate of $160 (double occupancy) to volunteers who need accommodations for the weekend. They will help teams from Clayoquot Wilderness Resort and the Ahousaht First Nation clean up tsunami debris that is washing up on the beaches around Clayoquot Sound, on the west coast of Vancouver Island....

HISTORIC TRIBAL HOUSE RENOVATED
Chief Shakes Tribal House, a historic monument on Shakes Island in the downtown harbour of Wrangell, AK, was recently renovated due to deteriorating conditions and will be rededicated in early May. Reconstructed as a replica of the original 19th century tribal house, the lodge was first opened in the 1940s. ARCTIC FLIGHT EXHIBIT OPENS
To celebrate 100 years of flight in Alaska, the Anchorage Museum has assembled a new exhibit called "Arctic Flight."A restored 1928 Stearman C2B biplane, borrowed from the Alaska Aviation Museum, anchors the exhibit, which also features artifacts on loan from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Film footage features a 1927 clip of the first airplane to fly over the North Pole and newsreels of the World War II campaign in the Aleutian Islands. The exhibit is on display until Aug. 11....
