DaVinci exhibit extends stay at Venetian, Vegas
By popular demand, "DaVinci - The Genius"at the Venetian in Las Vegas has extended its limited engagement through January. Since opening this summer, Da Vinci - The Genius has brought the artist/scientist to life with exhibits of his work as an inventor, painter, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, musician and architect. The show features more than 200 pieces, including the mold and original bronze cast of the only known da Vinci sculpture surviving today, "Horse and Rider."It was created over 500 years ago from a block of solid beeswax....
Red Mountain starts work on terrain expansion
Red Mountain Resort, in eastern BC, has started its most significant expansion to date: neighbouring Grey Mountain. The two-year expansion adds almost 400 hectares -- and a whole new mountain -- to the current 680 hectares of the resort. The $50 million project includes slope-side accommodations. Red has been known for world-class tree skiing, steep runs and 892 metres of vertical. Grey Mountain will open up intermediate runs, groomed cruising runs, tree glades and alpine chutes. Ed Moody has met his match - and it's a 1,000-pound pumpkin. On Oct. 21, the master pumpkin sculptor will take on his arch nemesis, a jack-o-giant, for all to see at Waikiki Beach Walk. New twice-daily service from Kahului to Hana
On Oct. 1, Mokulele Airlines began operating twice-daily flight service from Kahului Airport to Hana Airport, in partnership with Travaasa Hana, Maui. Passengers fly aboard a nine-seat Cessna Grand Caravan 208B and enjoy spectacular views of Hana's coastline during the 20-minute flight. World’s earliest maps at Royal BC Museum
The new season at the Royal BC Museum has just kicked off with an exciting exhibit entitled "Envisioning the World: The First Printed Maps, 1472-1700."This is an exhibition of thirty rare world maps drawn from the Wendt collection, complemented by a 1696 double-hemisphere map from the BC Archives collection. The exhibition includes the first world map ever printed, a simple woodprint, which illustrates the cumulative history of many of these maps.
